We Are Turning Two!

AA10 2nd Birthday Poster

We’ve had a brilliant last year, so we felt it best to have a party to celebrate! We have a fun filled and hugely talented line up joining us at The Glad Cafe on the 22nd June. On the bill we have:

Carla J. Easton

Carla released one of our favourite albums of 2018 with our pals at Olive Grove Records, and we were thrilled to have her contribute a track to Play it Like a Woman. She’s worked with the likes of Belle & Sebastian and The Vaselines, and has a voice like no other. She’s bringing her full band who blew the roof off Òran Mór at Celtic Connections – this is not to be missed! But don’t take our word for it check this out:

Home Economics

Our own jangle poppers will be playing hot off the heels of their double a-side single Idiots and April dates with fellow Double A-Siders Life Model. Guitars, noise – you know what to expect by now.

Lemon Drink

New on the scene Lemon Drink have managed to rack up support slots with Double A-Side favourites Lazy Day and Our Girl. Definitely ones to keep an eye on…

As always there will also be the (now infamous) Double A-Side raffle with all the proceeds going to the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) AND there will be cake and party hats. What are you waiting for, tickets are on sale now:

So Some News…

So, while we’ve been a little quiet recently, it’s time for the first of a few announcements!

On November 23rd we are releasing a split 7″ single featuring our own Home Economics and the thoroughly excellent Life Model. That’s right boys and girls, Double A-Side Records are finally releasing a double a-side single! More details will follow but for now we’ll just say it’ll be on coloured vinyl and we are very excited at the prospect.

The reason we’re writing today is to talk about the single launch! Keep Saturday the 24th November free as we are having another Double A-Side Party!

That’s right, we’re back at The Old Hairdressers, not only with Life Model and Home Economics. Tongue Trap will be joining us too. Check out their tunes below:

AA07: Double A-Side Records’ First Birthday

AA07 Poster Scan.jpeg

So while there have been rumblings for some time, the rumours are indeed true! Next month we turn one, and are having a wee celebration to mark the occasion. On Saturday the 16th June we bring the party to The Glad Cafe. Joining us we have:

Life Model:

The local (by way of Newcastle) dream pop quartet have been on our radar for quite some time and we are thrilled to have them play as part of our birthday celebrations. Imagine if Best Coast made a Shoegaze album and you might come close to how they sound.

Barbe Rousse

It wouldn’t be a Double A-Side Records party without them. The Edinburgh psychedelic soul four-piece are guaranteed to raise a smile and make you boogie on a Saturday night. Since releasing their album last October they’ve been gigging constantly and we cannot wait to welcome them back to Glasgow!

Hairband

With upcoming dates supporting Sleaford Mods and their debut EP coming out on Monorail Records Hairband definitely are ones to watch. The quintet (made up of pals from other bands) combine harmonies and jangly guitars to create something really special. Not to be missed.

As always there will be a charity raffle. All the proceeds are going towards Scottish Mental Health Association (SMAH). And of course it wouldn’t be a birthday party without a cake. So please join us!

Announcing AA06: Easter Jamboree

Now that the dust is starting to settle on the King Gizzard release (still a few left…) we thought it was time to host another gig, and this one is going to be an absolute belter!

AA06 Poster Scan 300DPI

On Saturday the 31st March, we’re hosting a little Easter get together in Glasgow’s Old Hairdressers. Joining us we have:

Book Group: The Edinburgh fuzzy quartet will be bringing their own brand of hook filled guitar pop. Expect megaphones.

Home Economics: Our very own shambolic pop outfit,. As per usual, there will be chat about The Simpsons and jangly guitars with some new songs added (maybe…)

Caitlin Buchanan: We were gutted that Caitlin couldn’t make our Office Festive Party due to illness so we invited her to play this one. Caitlin is a very talented singer-songwriter who has been making waves on the local scene recently and we are thrilled to have her play for us.

All this along with tunes spinning until late with our good friend Andy K’s Thoroughly Excellent Indie Disco!

What more could you ask for on a Saturday Night? Well, we’ll be having a raffle for Refuweegee too.

Advance tickets are available now for £5 and will be £6 on the door, see you there! xo

AA04: Office Festive Party

AA04 Poster

We wanted to have one last hoorah before the year was out so let’s consider this our “Hootenany.” Anyway, we have decided to do something a little different for this one, but first let’s introduce the acts:

Robin Adams

A local staple who we are thrilled to welcome this December. Adams has a voice that could sooth any soul. Having caught the main man a few times live we can guarantee you are in for a treat.

Mighty Finch

Former Brave Young Red frontman James Foley is one of the most talented songwriters we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. After a wee a break from music he is back with a new project, keeping things stripped back to just voice and guitar. Not to be missed!

Caitlin Buchanan

Caitlin Buchanan is a solo singer who describes herself as “a cross between Angel Olsen, Laura Marling and Kate Bush.” Upon listening we could instantly hear these influences ring through. Wistful vocals over finely strummed acoustic make for a wonderful combination.

Where is this wonderful event taking place? Well, it’s a secret! To find out more, you need to RSVP at the following link:

https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/aa04-festive-christmas-party-tickets-40945431889
Tickets are very limited!

We’re not charging any “door tax” for this one but will be taking donations to split between all the acts afterwards. There will also be a wee raffle with proceeds going to the local food bank.

Okay… fuck it!

*UPDATE* We’re going for this, still taking pre-orders!

I (Angus) lost a lot of sleep over this but finally said to myself “why not?”. This seems too good to pass up.

23509374_1778782185468010_7740703034542701375_o

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have just announced the release of their new album POLYGONDWANALAND. It is out Friday and they’re doing a pretty interesting experiment. They are giving everyone the “means of production” for it. All the details are over on their facebook.

We love King Gizzard here at Double A-Side HQ (Barbe Rousse is arguably influenced by them) so we’ve decided to go for it. However, to do so we need your help…

We care about our vinyl (I’m sure those who’ve bought a Barbe Rousse album can attest to that!) so decided to make this run as nice as we can. We are aiming to press it to yellow/purple split colour vinyl as those are our favourite colours here at Double A-Side!

Bandcamp Vinyl 12" Template

What we are asking is for you to help us crowdfund this release through pre-orders. Any money we make goes back into funding more gigs and releases so we think it’s a pretty sweet deal!

If we don’t reach our target of 100 pre-orders then we PROMISE to return everyone’s money.

There are, of course, options.

To thank you for your generosity, we are also offering funders the chance to get their name printed at the back of the LP’s artwork for just a few extra pounds. Check out the bandcamp link below to see your options!

PRE-ORDER NOW!

So please tell your friends, and let’s make a record happen! xo
